More than 57,000 music fans from around the world voted online for their favorite
self-released and independent label artists culled from the 250 Nominees in more
than 70 Album, Song, Music Video and Design categories.

Erik Urycki, the Speedbumps singer and guitarist, said the results come as a pleasant surprise for the band. “Its really humbling to know we have so many great fans out there that are willing to cast their support for us. It gives us a renewed spirit for what we do,” Urycki said.

Drummer Patrick Hawkins said it reminds him that people care about the music the band is creating. “Our fans have been so loyal and supportive. It’s just another example of a band being carried on the backs of its followers, “ Hawkins said. “Every accomplishment we’ve made has been because we’ve had passionate fans following us every step of the way.”

Now in its 11th year, The Independent Music Awards is a prestigious international program that connects top ranked artists to new audiences and revenue opportunities. The IMAs yearlong promotions distribution and performance opportunities place winners and nominees in front of millions of Fans, Programmers, Talent Buyers, Film, TV & Gaming Music Supervisors, Media and other gatekeepers.

“The IMAs celebrate artists who follow their own muse and the music fans who support them,” said Executive Director, Martin Folkman. “The Vox Pop award is one of the many ways the program motivates fans to discover and support incredible independent talent, which is the purpose of The Independent Music Awards,” Folkman said.

G-Love’s show in Kent comes less than two weeks after his appearance at the 10^th annual Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, TN.   The band’s is best known for their hit song “Cold Beverage” due in part to the song’s rotation on MTV, the album nearly went gold.

The group has performed with many artists including including All Fellas Band, Philly Cartel, King’s Court, and Dr. John, Jack Johnson and Donovan Frankenreiter.

In 1999, G-Love and Special Sauce released their fourth and according to Erik, their most awesome album, Philadelphonic.  The album featured Jack Johnson who later signed G-Love to his Brushfire Records.

The summer is finally here and what a better way to celebrate then with some live music.  The Speedbumps have a list of shows this summer that range from the band’s classic Sunday Fun Day parties in Kent, OH to the meadows of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  Check out the list of appearances for more details.

The Bumps are also happy to announce their involvement in the 1^st Annual MRC Out Loud Music Festival held on the banks of the Ohio River in Cincinnati on Saturday, June 11th. The festival, organized by Jim Casto, is a fundraiser to help raise money for the Music Resource Center of Cincinnati. The Music Resource Center is a multifaceted teen center that uses recording and performing arts, as well as life skills mentoring to create a sense of empowerment and accomplishment in the urban community.

The bumps will join many other talented artists at the event including Kent’s Randy Horvath, Cleveland’s DJ Scrilla and Boston’s Martin Earley and Devin Muach.

In addition to MRC fest the band is excited about performing at Akron’s Lock 3 Live and Downtown at Dusk as well as the Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Music in the Meadows.   The boys also return to the Boston Mills Art Festival for two shows and Cleveland for University Circle’s Wade Oval Wednesday concert series! Check the “SEE” page for more information!

The bands’ radio single “I Come From A Town” was nominated for best Adult Contemporary Song.  Representing the broad spectrum of today’s global independent music scene, the Speedbumps and more than 300 Nominees in nearly 70 Song, Album, Music Video and Design categories were culled from submissions from North America, South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.

Winners will be determined by a panel of 62 influential artist and industry judges including Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan, Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann,  Seal, Adam Duritz, Ozzy Osbourne,  Anthony DeCurtis (Rolling Stone), Pat McGuire (Filter Magazine) and Evan Schlansky (American Songwriter) and will be announced in mid-March 2011. Music fans have until July 11 to cast their votes at The IMA Vox Pop Jukebox to determine the fan-selected IMA Winners.
