Bumps to play IMA showcase in NYC next week!

Hey y’all!   The Speedbumps will be in New York City next Tuesday September 6th @ The Living Room in the east village for the 2011 IMA showcase.  If you are in the city, come out to this early show and enjoy some great tunes by some great independent artists!!!  Also, look for us in Boston, MA this Saturday @ Stonehill College!  Check back for specific times.  Momma, we are coming for ya girrrrl!

The SpeedBumps to be feat. on APT’s Roadtrip Nation!!!

COSTA MESA, CALIF. (August_ 2011) — Roadtrip Productions and KQED are proud to announce the premiere of Season Eight of Roadtrip Nation, which will be distributed through American Public Television to public television stations across the country beginning on Sept. 24, 2011. Roadtrip Nation is a weekly half-hour documentary series that tracks the up-close and personal journeys of young twenty-somethings as they cross the nation to figure out what to do with their lives.

The series will showcase some of the nations best-unsigned music artists including the Kent, Ohio based acoustic band, The Speedbumps.  The season premiere will feature the band’s 2009 single, “Song For the Frustrated” and the 2011 IMA Vox Pop Winner, “I Come From A Town”.

Others featured in Season Eight are: Soledad O’Brien, a CNN news anchor; Craig Robinson, an actor on the NBC series The Office; Gale Gand, a pastry chef and host on the Food Network; Todd McFarlane, creator of the comic book series Spawn; Judge Penny Brown Reynolds, star of the reality TV show Family Court with Judge Penny; and Hannah Song, president of Liberty in North Korea (LiNK), a nonprofit that helps North Korean refugees.

The philosophy that drivers Roadtrip Nation is the search for individuals who have resisted pressures to conform and have become successful by following their own paths.

The Speedbumps win the vox pop IMA!!!

IMA PRESS RELEASE – July 25, 2011 – The Fans have spoken. Kent based The Speedbumps, are among the established and rising stars named as winners in The 10th Independent Music Awards Vox Pop poll, the fan-determined portion of the influential international awards program for independent bands and fans.

More than 57,000 music fans from around the world voted online for their favorite
self-released and independent label artists culled from the 250 Nominees in more
than 70 Album, Song, Music Video and Design categories.

Erik Urycki, the Speedbumps singer and guitarist, said the results come as a pleasant surprise for the band. “Its really humbling to know we have so many great fans out there that are willing to cast their support for us. It gives us a renewed spirit for what we do,” Urycki said.

Drummer Patrick Hawkins said it reminds him that people care about the music the band is creating. “Our fans have been so loyal and supportive. It’s just another example of a band being carried on the backs of its followers, “ Hawkins said. “Every accomplishment we’ve made has been because we’ve had passionate fans following us every step of the way.”

Now in its 11th year, The Independent Music Awards is a prestigious international program that connects top ranked artists to new audiences and revenue opportunities. The IMAs yearlong promotions distribution and performance opportunities place winners and nominees in front of millions of Fans, Programmers, Talent Buyers, Film, TV & Gaming Music Supervisors, Media and other gatekeepers.

The Speedbumps to open for G-Love and Special Sauce

The Speedbumps are happy to announce Erik and Andrew will be sharing the stage with the Philadelphia artist G-Love and Special Sauce on June 21st at the historic Kent Stage in Kent, OH.

G-Love’s show in Kent comes less than two weeks after his appearance at the 10th annual Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, TN.   The band’s is best known for their hit song “Cold Beverage” due in part to the song’s rotation on MTV, the album nearly went gold.

The group has performed with many artists including including All Fellas Band, Philly Cartel, King’s Court, and Dr. John, Jack Johnson and Donovan Frankenreiter.

In 1999, G-Love and Special Sauce released their fourth and according to Erik, their most awesome album, Philadelphonic.  The album featured Jack Johnson who later signed G-Love to his Brushfire Records.
